Make this Mother's Day in Manchester one to remember by celebrating in style! With a variety of events, shows and dining events, there's no shortage of ways to spoil your mum.
If you're struggling to figure out a way to spend Mother's Day this year, don't fret. CitySuites picked out some of the most enjoyable ways to celebrate Mother's Day in Manchester.
Mother’s Day this year lands on the 19th of March, Sunday, right in the middle of the month. The good news? There's plenty to do in (and around) this special day to make sure your mum has the best time!
Whether your mum enjoys a bit of pampering and luxury, a good walk in the fresh air, or a bit of friendly family competition, we have you covered this Mother's Day.
Check out our tailor-made selection of fun activities to do this year for Mother's Day
Treat your mum to a 2-night luxury weekend stay in one of our Manchester aparthotel, CitySuites and CitySuites II. Our Luxury Package includes a chilled bottle of prosecco on arrival, as well as breakfast each morning in the Embankment Kitchen. We are just a stone’s throw from Selfridges and the Arndale, meaning you can come and go into Manchester city centre super easily.
While both of our aparthotel have a luxury pool area featuring a hot tub, CitySuites II also had the added bonus of a steam room – open exclusively to our guests and residents. Book your stay here.
While the restaurant is sadly not open on Mother's Day this year in 2023, there's no harm in celebrating earlier. Why not book a seat this Saturday to enjoy a number of cocktails and cuisines? Embankment Kitchen offers an excellent dining experience, regardless of what day it is in the year!
You can view the full menu here and book your seat to enjoy CitySuites' luxury restaurant.
Just a 4-minute drive from Victoria Station, GRUB is holding a "Bottomless Mama Mia" event this Mother's Day! You can join the wonderful team at GRUB for some fun singalongs, complete with drinks, great food and an electrifying atmosphere!
With an additional screening of Mamma Mia The Movie in their basement bar, everyone and their mums can both relax and have a great time. With a fun selection of drinks available (as well as non-alcoholic alternatives) you're guaranteed to have a great time. Did we mention bottomless drinks while you enjoy the film?
There are a few events from Candlelight Manchester that will be of interest if you think your mum is someone that will enjoy a well-made (and well-lit) classical concert.
Candlelight concerts are amazing shows paired with the atmospheric setting created by the surrounding candle lights. The warm, captivating aura creates an emotional scene straight out of a movie, a moment that we're sure anyone will enjoy!

March overall has a great selection of musicals currently on around Mother's Day in Manchester.
It might not be a common way to spend the day celebrating your mum, but a musical comes with great entertainment that suits different people. With the list of musicals available from mid-March to the start of April, buying your mum a ticket is a fantastic way to say that you appreciate them!
Below are some of the musicals happening in Manchester:
With plenty of food and drink options in Manchester to indulge in, you might fancy actually getting out of the city on Mother’s Day! For our recommended Sunday afternoon walk, head north up to Ramsbottom to blow away the cobwebs with a walk around Holcombe Moor and up to Peel Tower.
There are plenty of circular walks in the area depending on how far you want to go, but the trail up to Peel Tower from Ramsbottom itself will give you ample opportunity to stretch your legs.
If going south is more your thing, head to Lyme in Cheshire, a gorgeous National Trust property that served as the location of the BBC’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in the 90s. There are 1,400 acres of grounds to explore – look out for the herds of deer, ancient woodlands, and an Edwardian rose garden.
If you know your mum enjoys a bit of history and culture, then Manchester Museum's newly reopened venue will be the perfect opportunity to spend during Mother's Day. The museum reopened in February, 2023 after a major redevelopment, adding new displays for all visitors to enjoy. The museum showcases exhibitions that highlight other diverse displays (including international cultures and historical events).
You can visit the museum as it is free for everyone, but the site recommends booking tickets to see its highlights such as the Golden Mummies Egypt exhibition - the rest will not require tickets!
If your mum isn’t much of a lady of luxury, or your family is just super competitive, check out The Cube Live in Manchester’s Arndale shopping centre. Recently opened earlier in 2022, The Cube Live is home to many of the extraordinary tasks and games that are seen in ITV’s game show with the iconic perspex box. Currently only open in Manchester, groups of 2-4 people can take on The Cube Live with a mix of individual and group games. Booking is essential.
For all the gin lovers, we can recommend visiting the Manchester Gin distillery, located in the city just off Deansgate. There are several options to choose from, including the 45-minute guided tour which is just £25pp and includes a G&T on arrival and a tutored tasting of 4 gins. You could also treat your mum to a Gin-Making Experience, where she’ll be able to choose the botanicals to distil her own gin to take home. Book your experience today.
