Lights are an important staple for lots of cities during Christmas, with Manchester being no exception. The city centre will likely be full of twinkling lights covering roofs to floors, showcasing each building's wonderfully woven Christmas light decoration. You can take part in experiencing the magical lights around Greater Manchester too! Take a look at what we recommend below:
The entire Deansgate road starts from Manchester Cathedral up until Deansgate's tram station. The lights are typically similar to Blackpool's very own annual Christmas lights - with a more obvious emphasis on fitting the city. While a shorter drive, the visuals present for those going through the street are nothing short of spectacular.
King Street is home to some of the best independent shops in Manchester. Paired with festive lights up to Spring Gardens Street, you can enjoy a brisk but fantastical walk to enjoy the light displays across various businesses!
Surrounded by the likes of Manchester's Harvey Nichols, the luxury New Cathedral Street and Arndale, Exchange Square is a sight to behold during Christmas. In addition to having the Ice Rink and Christmas Markets, Exchange Square is full of twinkling lights to add to the yuletide mood in Manchester. The street is also home to Manchester Cathedral - which has its own seasonal decor to look forward to.
One of the areas with the largest space in Manchester, St. Peter's Square is commonly bedazzled with merry illuminations. Last year saw the square include the giant Santa Claus, with gentle lights sprinkled across the area from restaurants to other shops close by. A walk here in the evening is absolutely recommended!
These lights are expected to come on during November time - likely when the markets open. However, no exact date for each area is certain.
Luckily, the jubilant lights do not end at the city itself. While Manchester is a fantastic place to spend time surrounded by the merry lights, there are other places to check out just outside of the area.
Date: 15th November to 30th December (Wednesdays to Saturdays)
A breathtaking lights show is coming to Salford this year - RHS Glow will illuminate the path at its magical trail, taking you and your family, friends, or whomever you want to come, into a spectacular walk filled with fairly lights, bright archways, and more along the way.
Date: Between November and December
Trafford Centre is already a fantastic place to visit at any time of the year due to its large number of shops and attractions. Every Christmas, the centre is transformed into a holiday spectacle, with various lights and illuminating decor places within and outside the gigantic centre. Not to mention Santa's Grotto, as well as a dedicated indoor Christmas Markets to enjoy!
Date: 17th November to 31st December
Chester Zoo is presenting a Lanterns and Lights Show. Take part in the magical journey of festivities: from picturesque light installations to captivating sounds of yuletide themes. Join Chester Zoo this winter and witness an incredible, unforgettable trail.

Christmas is coming at Heaton Park. Expect seasonal light installations taking place during the festive period - with colour-changing orbs, neon streaks of fantastical lights, and other never-seen-before features to look forward to.
