Manchester Christmas Markets For 2022

What we know about the Manchester Christmas Markets in 2022

26/09/2022

The Manchester Christmas Markets are on the horizon for 2022! This year, the markets will be open every day from Thursday 10th November until Thursday 22nd December 2022.

While many of the stalls in the main markets will close on 22nd December, there will be certain areas that remain open past the new year.

This includes the festive ice rink at Manchester's Cathedral Gardens, just over the river from CitySuites, which is set to be the city's biggest ever outdoor ice rink. From October 21st to 31st, the ice rink will become Scare Skate with a giant monster to celebrate Halloween in Manchester.

After then, Cathedral Gardens will transform into a magical winter wonderland for the festive period with a huge 7m tall Christmas tree taking centre stage in the middle of a custom-made ice path, extending the rink and allowing more people to get their skates on! This will be open until 2nd January 2023 and tickets are available here

Where will the Christmas Markets be in Manchester?

Much like last year, in 2022 the main Manchester Christmas Market hub will be at Piccadilly Gardens, which will see the return of the Winter Gardens.

While the other Christmas Market locations haven't quite been revealed yet, they are likely to be in the same locations as last year. This included clusters of market stalls around Manchester, including St Ann's Square, Exchange Square, Cathedral Gardens, New Cathedral Street, and more.

According to Manchester City Council, the markets will be open "in the daytime on Thursday, November 10", before being fully open from November 11th. Opening and closing times are yet to be formally announced, but the stalls usually open around 10am and close between 8pm and 9pm.

In 2022, the Manchester Christmas Markets are expected to make an even further return to normal, although the Town Hall is still under major renovations so will not be able to host any of the Christmas Markets as it did pre-covid.

Cllr Pat Karney, Manchester's official Christmas spokesperson, said "With Christmas Day a mere three months away, that can only mean one thing - Manchester Christmas Markets Day is even sooner!

"In fact, there's only seven weeks left to go until you can grab a gluhwein and buddy up with a bratwurst whilst checking out the fantastic Christmas gifts and goodies on the best Christmas Market in the land. Mark it on your calendars - 10 November - they're back!"

Yes, visitors to the winter Manchester Markets can expect all the usual festive market stalls full of Christmas treats, mulled wine, and hot food, as well as lots of local independent makers and sellers.

Christmas is one of the best times to make the most of Manchester. Not only will you get a fantastic tour of the city between visiting the different Christmas Market areas, but you can also hop in and out of Manchester’s best bars and restaurants.

Currently, CitySuites is offering a special deal where you can book and stay 3 nights for the price of 2. For more information and to book, click here.
