Things are hotting up in Manchester this summer - and we're not just talking about the recent warmer weather. 

Summer 2023 is set to make the city sizzle with events, from music and foodie festivals, to international sports tournaments, and plenty more inbetween.

Manchester Day

When: 29th July

Where: Across the city

On Sunday 27th July, Manchester Day will bring a huge amount of festivities held across the city's parks, including Piccadilly Gardens and Cathedral Gardens. The event is being "revamped" into a bigger spectacle than its yearly counterparts. The announcement made by the council states that the day will "extend into the evening", adding a special night city celebration filled with music, and more! 

Manchester Day is a family-friendly event and free for everyone to attend! 

Manchester Day 2022

Sounds of the City – Castlefield Bowl

When: 28th June to 11th July

Where: Castlefield Bowl, Manchester

A staple part of the Manchester music scene, Sounds of the City is back in June 2022 featuring a range of acclaimed artists, with Lewis Capaldi, opening the event on Wednesday 28th June. Other artists performing include Foals, Crowded House, James, Pixies, Sam Fender and Hacienda Classical, who will close the event on Friday 8th July.

Castlefield Bowl itself is an outdoor ampitheatre style venue at the end of Deansgate, just a 20-minute walk from CitySuites. Fingers crossed the rain holds off! Tickets available here

Manchester International Festival

When: 29th June to 16th July (2023)

Where: Factory International/Festival Square

Manchester International Festival is back after its year-long break. With exciting exhibitions created by upcoming talents, Manchester International Festival in 2023 is set to be one of the biggest events to happen in the city. 

The event will feature both paid and free displays, including a fantastic summer hangout spot at Festival Square (5 minutes from CitySuites!).

You can get your tickets here, or simply visit Festival Square from the 30th of June to enjoy the summery vibes.

Festival Manchester 2022B

BlueDot Festival

When: 20th to 23rd July

Where: Jodrell Bank Observatory, Cheshire

After two years off, the intergalactic mezze of science, culture and art is back. BlueDot Festival takes place at the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire, offering 4 days of cosmic entertainment. In 2022, this includes a performance of orchestral arrangements from Björk, comedic performances from Desiree Burch, Adam Buxton and Lolly Adefope, a series of talks and panel discussions from leading scholars, and an immersive experience called The Luminarium.

Pride Weekend

When: 25th to 28th August

Where: Gay Village, Manchester

The Manchester Pride Festival takes place across the August bank holiday weekend, bringing together LGBTQ+ people and their allies for celebration, protest, and liberation. While some of the festival – the Gay Village Party – is ticketed, the Parade, which takes place on Saturday 26th August, is free to attend, as is the Candlelit Vigil on Monday 28th. There’s also a free arts and culture programme called Superbia Weekend which celebrates LGBTQ+ life through poetry, art, music, dance, and more.

Manchester Food and Drink Festival

When: 22nd September to 2nd October

Where: Across the city

Bringing together a huge array of incredible food and drink traders, the Manchester Food and Drink Festival is going to be bigger and better than ever this year as the event celebrates its 25th anniversary. Festival events will take place in venues across the city – including in Cathedral Gardens, just across from CitySuites – so there is plenty to get involved in.

This year, our very own Embankment Kitchen will also be taking part in the MFDF! As part of their ‘£25 for 25 years’ promotion, Embankment Kitchen will offer the ‘Taste of Embankment’ sharing board, plus two of our new wine-based cocktails, for £25! Included on the tasting board is

  • Crispy fried squid, chorizo, kale crumb, homemade turmeric, and chorizo aioli
  • Samphire tempura king prawns, wasabi mayonnaise and seared lime
  • Slow braised wild boar and for de late mozzarella arancini with San Marzano and mascarpone cream and crispy basil
  • Handmade rosemary and garlic focaccia, roast red pepper hummus and crispy shallot
  • The wine cocktails are £10.95, so our Taste of Embankment offers fantastic value for money

Laughterama

When: 6th to 10th September

Where: Castlefield Bowl

Do you like getting your funny bone tickled? If so, get your tickets booked for Laughterama, Manchester’s brand-new comedy festival! From 6th to 10th September, there will be five nights of brilliant comedy at Castlefield Bowl with some outstanding names, including Dylan Moran, Lou Sanders, Nish Kumar, Rose Matafeo, James Acaster, plus many more. The big names will be joined by some outstanding, up-and-coming acts, and there’ll be plenty of food and drink on offer too!
