You may have seen the unfortunate news that Manchester City Council has decided to cancel all of its planned firework displays in Manchester due to Covid-19 safety fears.
Confirming the news that the council-run Manchester fireworks won’t be going ahead for the second Bonfire Night in a row, Councillor Rabnawaz Akbar, executive member for neighbourhoods, said, “This is not a decision we have taken lightly and I know that many people who look forward to these events will be disappointed, especially when we could not host them last year because of coronavirus restrictions.
"But the health of Manchester people, and the logistical considerations around that, has to come first.”
The eight Manchester City Council firework displays that have been cancelled are:
- Heaton Park
- Platt Fields Park
- Wythenshawe Park
- Crumpsall Park
- Etihad Campus
- Cringle Park
- Debdale Park
- Brookdale Park
However, despite the Manchester City Council cancellations, there are still plenty of firework displays in Manchester that are going ahead for Bonfire Night! There are a mixture of firework night events taking place around Greater Manchester, including free events hosted by local councils and ticketed events with a careful restriction on numbers. Many come with extras, like funfairs and food stalls, and there are some that have smaller, quieter firework displays that are suitable for young children.
