Commonly referred to as ‘the capital of the North’, Manchester is renowned for its unique spirit, history and range of attractions. The city has won the hearts of UK and overseas visitors alike, rightfully earning its title as one of the most visited UK cities outside of London.
Here we give you our handy guide to 24 hours in Manchester, helping you make the most of your stay in this wonderful, diverse city that we’re lucky enough to call home.
Rise and shine
CitySuites offers a delicious breakfast menu from 7am, where guests can enjoy a healthy continental or cooked breakfast in our stylish Executive Lounge. If you’re meeting friends or have more time to explore though, we highly recommend breakfast at Pot Kettle Black. Situated in a Victorian shopping arcade on Deansgate, just a short walk from CitySuites, this delightful café offers a delicious range of pastries and cakes from its very own in-house bakery. If you’re on a health kick, try the blueberry smoothie pot, or for a true taste of the city, the Manchester tart French toast is an absolute must.
Alternatively, San Carlo Cicchetti on King Street West offers delicious breakfast options in a stylish setting. With King Street’s high end stores just a stone’s throw away, this is the perfect option for hitting the shops straight after.
Shopping in Manchester is a dream come true, with everything from smaller vintage and independent shops, to high street favourites and iconic designer brands.
If you’re in the mood for a lavish mid-morning spree, then head straight over to Harvey Nichols, less than a five minute walk from CitySuites. Whether its fashion, food or beauty, this luxury department store stocks all of the latest trends and will make you feel like royalty.
For the ultimate luxury shopping experience, continue down New Cathedral Street from Harvey Nichols, where you’ll find a range of high fashion brands, such as Hugo Boss, Burberry and Louis Vuitton.
Lunch at the market
One of our favourite lunch spots in Manchester has to be Mackie Mayor. Set within a stunning 1858 Grade II listed market building, the food hall in the heart of the Northern Quarter has stalls serving everything from artisan pizza and fresh fish dishes to Taiwanese steamed buns and cocktails.
With its unique trestle table set up, it has a friendly, sociable atmosphere and there’s truly something to suit everyone’s tastes.
Time to explore
After stopping to refuel, we recommend visiting the highly Instagrammable neighbourhood of Ancoats, recently voted 13th coolest neighbourhood in the world.
Full of beautifully converted mill buildings and quaint side streets, Ancoats’ unique, hip culture radiates from its independent cafes and art venues. Grab yourself a coffee from Pollen Bakery and take a stroll by Ancoats’ very own waterside oasis – Islington Marina.
Dinner with a view
Treat yourself to an extravagant three course meal at Manchester’s iconic 20 Stories and take in the stunning panoramic city views over a martini.
You’re never far from home, as CitySuites is located right in the centre of the city. Once you’ve taken in all that you can of the city in one day, return home to your relaxing, spacious apartment where a cosy king-sized bed will be waiting for you.
